Theory Lecture Week 11: Narrative

Todays lecture was about narrative in a designers work. It was stated at the start that narrative can be applied to any design style. EG campaign, print, advertising, digital. Being able to use narrative is key when designing/developing visuals.

Narrative i split into three sections, exposition, climax and then denouement.

Stephen then presented us with a series of conflicts, wrote by Arthur Quiller Couch

man against man
man against fate
man again society
man against supernatural
man against machine
man against god
man against self
man against nature

This is basically say that it is one vs the world.

We then got to the man theme of the lecture and that was which was, which fits into all graphic designer jobs .

Narrative: a spoken or written account of connected events/stories.

The lecture was concluded with questions that relate to Denouement
Whats the story you want to tell?
What is the issue with the story?
What are the events of the story?
What is the context of the story?
