Harry Beck was commissioned to design a map that would show the people of london all the tube lines and stations. But when designing something that would eventually become used everyday by millions, you cant just come up with an idea straight away. He had to think about what he was creating and how important it was. He had to take into consideration, size; he could create a massive piece of work to go into a tube station, because it wouldn't fit, so he knew it had to be small, but not too small so you cant read it. He knew it had to be simple too, so it couldn't have all these intricate designs on it, but he knew he couldn't show the exact route like where the track bends or each strategic position of the station. So he knew it had to just lines. He then couldn't have it in one colour because you needed to be able to find the right train and which platform you need to be on. So he knew it had to be colourful and stand out.
This is what he came up with
This map as all the tube stations on, it sort of shows the majority go the train directions, but like i said not every direction change. It also includes where the thames is. Its colourful, simple.
